Re: R.I.P. Michael Jackson?
Who would've knew that David Carridine would die naked in the closet of a Thai hotel room, and Michael Jackson would die of a heart attack in his home. You would've thought it would be the other way around.

Re: 3 Qs: 80s percussion. G&G cleanup. phase flipping.
While similar sounds can be (somewhat accomplished) using digital reverb effects these days, here's something I've thought of trying. I could record a single snare track, double it, and apply huge reverb and a long gate to the second track, while keeping the first track tight and poppy. I think tha...

Re: 3 Qs: 80s percussion. G&G cleanup. phase flipping.
1) I think there was also a noise gate effect after the reverb to trim off some of the decay of the reverb so as not to muddy up the mix. Some reverbs have a control called damping which also lets you shorten up the reverb decay. That's pretty much it. It's a compression/reverb/noise gate combinati...

I heard somewhere that text doesn't work with homonyms. Still, here goes.

Our school got a set of drums donated by Carmine Appice and Ddrum. My project is learning to play them decently. I can do some basic rock beats, with some simple fills, but I'd like to be a little more proficient. I'm going through Appice's book Realistic Rock, and I've also got "Funky Primer&q...

A foot thick cymbal would work awesomely sustain-wise. The only problem is you'd have to hit it with a 20 pound hammer. In essence you'd have a church bell. They sustain forever but it takes a lot of energy to get them moving.

We've become a society of people just settling for crap. BLT that reminds me of this quote by Jaron Lanier about that new Songsmith crap by Microsoft If our purpose is to please ourselves in the most average way possible, without caring what anything means, we might as well just kill ourselves. We'...

I say Durand Durand is the return of Bill Chase. Kick Ass. And if nobody mentioned the funky bass line I will. Also kick ass.

I live about a mile and a half from the stadium where the Superbowl was played. The helicopters are still flying around and traffic has sucked all week. I had to wait in between helicopter flights while recording my FAWM vocals.

This will be just like any other software that purports to turn untalented/lazy people into guitar players/singers/writers/artists et. al. People who bring talent to the software will make it rock. People who expect the software to bring talent to them will still suck.

Re: What's the best way to get traffic to an Internet forum?
Websites are somewhat different than forums in the way content is produced, you as the admin don't have as much control over the content. Still I've been doing a lot of SEO stuff lately and Hoblit is right about the SEO stuff. Generic is right about producing quality content too. But there's a crapl...

I don't know how far you want to take this, but you might also want to look at internet domain names too. They're cheap and you might want one down the road, but it's hard to find good ones that aren't taken. I called myself Project-D because "D" is the initial of my first name and it's my...

Re: Zappa CDs
I'm partial to The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life but it's about half and half Zappa compositions and covers. Still, the covers have that Zappa stamp on them, and it's an awesome display of the Zappa band live, with some of his more accessible songs.

Re: achieving massive choir sound
Going off J.B.'s advice, if you can get two friends to sing it with you doing what he suggested, it will go a long way to getting the sound you want. I'd imagine if you were in a good sounding, live room using the room's natural sound would be better than artificial echo - stand back from the mic a ...

I'd be curious to know if people with the ability to read music do better at GH than people who don't. There's not only the playing aspect but the coordination of playing with the scrolling sequence of colors. I also know people who can play GH with the sound turned off, basically using visual cues....

"Supposeably" does not equal supposedly. Did I spell that right? It doesn't matter because supposeably is not a word. I also know we're talking about spoken language, but these words: they're there their are not interchangeable. Don't get me started on your usage of "your/you're"...

I use that plugin successfully, it looks pretty much like what you've got on your page except the player shows without clicking a link.
